Carol Schram: With a lot on the line, Travis Green exudes confidence as Canucks open camp The Vancouver Canucks kicked off the on-ice portion of their 2020-21 training camp on Monday — most notably, with rookie Nils Hoglander skating with Bo Horvat and Tanner Pearson. It's a bold move by coach Travis Green, whose contract extension goals are likely tied to a hot start and a strong season by his group.

Thx Carol!!!

Green should be signed even if it's shorter term.

The optics of him not being signed yet well...is not good.

At this developmental point in the club it's doubtful Benning and Co. are looking at a different coach.

Get Green signed JB!!

I sort of disagree bud.

I say screw the optics. You have seen two years of debates about Greens ability as a coach on here.

Most last year thought he reached his max and playoffs gave him a bit of grace. This team is ready to take a next step and you want to make sure the coaching has also. So I say screw the optics, make sure you have the right guy.

Thanks Carol. Green has earned an extension. He is one of the bright young minds in the game.

#Canucks Day 2 scrimmage notes:
- Baertschi is working his ass off
- Hoglander looks like he belongs
- Rathbone is exciting, doesn’t look Hoglander-level ready yet
- Lotto Line is 3 practices from being ready for the season and already has chemistry with Schmidt.

Yes you can play regular season but there was a rule on play-off eligibility prior to TDL.
- NuckUp

I thought that was based off roster freeze which is after TDL. as an example TDL in 2019 was Feb 25 and roster freeze was Mar 16th. Which also explains why Hughes was able to play that year.

PS thank you Carol.

I don’t know that he’s stood out, but he’s looked the part, and that’s the whole ballgame.

It’s enough that I’d say he’s looked like their third best defender playing the left side at camp.

I wonder if Bearcheeze will make the taxi squad and slot in for injuries or if Hogz falters on the Bo line.

The Great Reset calls for going green. This is one case I say Green for a couple years would be OK.

OJ is more ready than Rathbone – and he should be. Give it a year and it may be a different story. It will be good for Rathbone to be an extra/on the taxi squad to get some NHL reps without being forced into game action which he isn't quite ready for.

He has more utility than Eriksson on the taxi squad, and has chemistry with the team. I'd 100% have him on the taxi squad.

Hopefully everyone here has a better year than last years dumpster fire.

I'm happy they brought in Hamonic, should take the pressure off the kids.

Rathbone is what I hoped he'd be

Hoglander has surprised me, JB will have some interesting options if a couple of these kids crack the lineup.

Pod's been somewhat underwhelming imo, but I do like his character and tenacity.

Podz had the kind of tournament I thought he would. Worked his ass off every shift, high energy high pressure, points against lesser teams. Still has a game against the Fins so could get a few more points...or not. Doesnt matter, he played as advertised so nothing to complain about.

Hogz exactly where I thought he'd be, on Bo's wing and looking confident. Hope he can find another gear still.

I wonder if HODG making it reduces the rush on POD? We're going to be real young real quick! I like it...

Baert seems to be trying hard but sounds like he's coming out 2nd best in all the drills.

All good. I just don't know if changing another coach is a good option right now. Team seems to respond better to Green as we seen in the PO's from 3 great series. I do agree however that maybe the next step could be taken with a different coach...but also have seen Green grow with this club and improve just like the players. Not sure if right now is the time for a coaching change is all. And yes I do think the optics matter a bit especially with the goofy Press in CDN markets. IMO anyways.
